If you’re not familiar with the show, 100 contestants have to answer questions that a progressively smaller amount of people were able to get right and for everyone eliminated another grand is added to the prize pot.
Get to the end and you can walk away with a nifty 10k of your currency (so you should play the UK version because our money is worth more) or you can risk it all for your share of the accumulated prize pot by answering their ‘1 percent question’ that almost nobody got right.
Of course, the dream has got to be ending up as the last player standing so you can get all of the money for yourself.
That’s just what Aussie bloke Michael managed to do when he was asked what viewers thought was an incredibly hard question.
Could you do it in just 30 seconds?
Michael got the question right, can you? (Channel 7)
The question goes: “If January equals 717, March equals 5315 and June equals 4624, then what does August equal?”
Start that 30 second timer and see if you can get the right answer… tick, tick, tick.
When Michael’s time was up he’d been writing right until the final moment and admitted that he’d changed his answer while trying to figure out the final question.
With AUS$100,000 (£50,000) on the line he was clearly hoping he’d figured out the right answer and cleared the final question.
The answer was revealed to be ‘6848’, which is precisely what Michael had given as his answer and his success was greeted with widespread applause.
Does that answer make sense to you? (Channel 7)
If you played along properly reading this and got the correct answer, then you ought to feel good about yourself.
However, if you’re wondering how on Earth you get the number 6848 from August then remember that The 1% Club questions almost always function like riddles where the clue is in how you’re asked.
The answer is 6848 because there are six letters in the word August and it’s the eighth month of the year, multiply them together and you get 48.
