Spinach Stuffed Pastry Recipe
Ingredients
For the pastry:
- 1 package of puff pastry sheets (thawed)
For the filling:
- 2 cups fresh spinach (chopped)
- 1/2 cup ricotta cheese
- 1/2 cup feta cheese (crumbled)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 small onion (finely diced)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 egg (beaten, for brushing)
- A pinch of salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: A pinch of nutmeg for extra flavor
Instructions
Prepare the filling by heating olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté until softened, about 2–3 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant. Stir in the chopped spinach and cook until wilted. Remove the skillet from heat and let the mixture cool slightly. In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked spinach mixture with ricotta cheese, feta cheese, Parmesan cheese, salt, pepper, and nutmeg (if using). Mix well.
Serve warm as an appetizer, snack, or light meal. Pair with a side of marinara sauce or tzatziki for dipping.
Tips for Perfect Pastries
Thaw the puff pastry properly to ensure it is fully thawed but still cold when working with it to prevent it from becoming too soft. Customize the filling by adding cooked mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, or shredded chicken for variety. Store leftover pastries in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat them in the oven to retain their crispiness.
