Police investigating attack after Sara Sharif’s father has ‘neck sliced open by tuna can lid’ in prison

The father of Sara Sharif has reportedly been attacked in prison, with the incident currently being under investigation by police.

Urfan Sharif and Sara’s step-mother, Beinash Batool, were sentenced to life behind bars after being convicted of killing the 10-year-old at their Surrey home.

Sara was found dead in her family home on 10 August, 2023, after her father Urfan called police and told them he had killed his daughter and left her body at an address in Woking, UK.

Authorities later discovered a note next to the child’s body, where Urfan further admitted responsibility for her death.

While the father and step-mother were found guilty of murder, Sara’s uncle, Faisal Malik, was found not guilty of murder but guilty of causing or allowing the death of a child.

After analysis, it was found that Sara’s body had 100 separate injuries, such as burns cause by an iron and human bite marks.

But weeks after Sara’s father was locked up, police are now investigating an alleged attack upon Urfan at Belmarsh Prison on Wednesday (1 January), according to The Sun.

It is said that he suffered cuts to his neck and face, later getting medical treatment in the prison.

A Prison Service spokesperson stated: “Police are investigating an assault on a prisoner at HMP Belmarsh on 1 January. It would be inappropriate to comment further while they investigate.”

The Sun report that the 42-year-old was attacked with a makeshift weapon made from a jagged tuna tin lid at the Categtory A prison, which houses some of the UK’s most dangerous inmates.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “Police are investigating an allegation that a prisoner was assaulted at HMP Belmarsh on 1 January. The victim, a 43-year-old man, suffered non-life threatening injuries.”

Sara was said to be part of a ‘campaign of torture’ that lasted two years, as she was hooded, burned and beaten until her death in August 2023.

Though Urfan and his wife were given life sentences, they were given a minimum of 40 years and 33 years behind bars, while Sara’s uncle, Faisal Malik, received 16 years of jail time for his involvement in the heinous crimes.

The day before her body was found, the three took Sara’s five siblings and fled to Islamabad, Pakistan, causing an international manhunt. After four weeks of hiding, they returned to the UK and were consequently arrested.
