The explosion occurred just hours after a man drove a truck into a crowd in New Orleans with an Islamic State flag.
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has spoken out following the explosion on X.
Musk wrote: “The whole Tesla senior team is investigating this matter right now. Will post more information as soon as we learn anything. We’ve never seen anything like this.
“Both this Cybertruck and the F-150 suicide bomb in New Orleans were rented from Turo. Perhaps they are linked in some way.”
While law enforcement are investigating the possibility the two attacks are linked, this has yet to be confirmed at the time of writing.
The Fire Department Deputy Chief of Clark County, where the explosion took place released a statement said that, as first responders attended the fire, they also ‘realised at the same time that there were multiple persons with injuries located around the vehicle’.

Thomas Touchstone said: “There were multiple person with injuries located around the vehicle. There were 7 [people] with minor injuries, two of which were transported to UMC (University Medical Center).
“There is one fatality within the Cybertruck.”
In addition to the death, seven people were injured, though all seven sustained only minor injuries.
The attack is politically relevant due to the new connection between Elon Musk and the President-elect Donald Trump.
Musk is set to head up the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) alongside fellow billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy.

The richest man in the world has continued to tweet about the incident after breaking his silence, hinting he may sue news outlets framing the explosion around Tesla.
As pointed out by Musk, both vehicles were rented from Turo, a car rental company.
Turo released a statement saying: “We are heartbroken by the violence perpetrated in New Orleans and Las Vegas, and our prayers are with the victims and families.”
Police have said there is no further threat to the Las Vegas community
