A woman who had seemingly vanished into thin air was found after a Google Maps car tracked her final steps.
Paulette Landrieux, who had Alzheimer’s, disappeared without a trace in November 2020 having last been seen by her husband, and carer, at their home in Andenne, Belgium.

A search party was subsequently launched, which involved helicopters with thermal vision, drones, and even sniffer dogs, but their efforts bore

The local police force issued a missing person report stating that Landrieux was a ‘potentially confused woman’ who would often knock on her neighbour’s homes – which will only add to how surreal her disappearance was and eventual discovery.
On November 2, 2020, Landrieux wandered out of her home and began walking across the road – at the exact time a Google Maps car was collating fresh imagery from her street, Rue Reppe.
It was the first time Google had visited her road in 11 years, and the search engines ‘Street View’ captures her climbing the stairs down to her neighbour’s garden.
While this was all going on, her husband was hanging washing up in the garden – with the Google Maps car also capturing him doing so in the same shot through a 360 degree panoramic image.

Incredibly, two years went by without any success as to where the 83-year-old could be, with her family members assuming that she must have fallen in to the Meuse River, which is located a short walk behind their garden.
It took a sleuth attempting to retrace her steps through Google Maps and Google Street View to finally come across footage of her crossing the road in a white jumper and black trousers.
Following the discovery, police refreshed their search, this time to look in the garden of the property opposite to her home.
After two years, Landrieux was found at the bottom of a hill right below her neighbour’s garden, with investigations concluding she had fallen from an open section of the garden and tragically died shortly after taking the tumble.

Taking to Reddit, users were in disbelief that it took years for Landrieux to
“There was a large scale search and she was found in her neighbour’s garden? That is unbelievable,” one wrote.
Another typed: “I can’t believe they only found her because Google maps showed her crossing the street. Were they even trying?”
Meanwhile, others were shocked at the timing from the Google Maps car. One user commented: “Are we are to assume those photos were taken on the day she went missing? If so, wow! Good job Google!”
Another replied: “Not just the day she went missing, but the exact moment. If it had been 10 seconds earlier she would just be in her walkway and it wouldn’t give any clues.”

The mysterious case of a Montana woman’s disappearance 17 years ago remains unsolved, and people are perplexed by her case.
On July 18, 2007, Barbara Bolick was out hiking in Montana near the Bear Creek Overlook outside Victor and disappeared after her hiking partner looked away for just 45 seconds.
Even now, officials have no leads as to what happened to her that day.
Last year, law enforcement sent out a new post asking for anything people may know about what transpired, to piece together the events the led up to her vanishing without a trace.
Bolick’s hiking partner was Jim Ramaker, who claims that she was there one moment, and gone the next.

Jim was the last person to ever see her alive, and although that seems fishy to some, police believe he had no connection with her disappearance.
According to Ramaker, he would turn his back on her for just 45 seconds, and when he looked back, he realized that she had quietly vanished, never to be seen again.
News historian and former NBC Montana news director Jim Harmon retold the case, explaining: “They were only a short distance apart. Yet in a few seconds, he looks back and she’s not there.
“It’s just amazing to me. How in the world did that happen? How could she not just have been a short distance down the hill? It’s absolutely a mystery.”
As of now, Bolick would be 72 years old.
According to reports, she was last seen wearing a pastel-colored shirt, tan shorts and a black backpack.
U.S. Attorney for the District of Montana, Jesse Laslovich told NBC Montana that the search was costly, but they are continuing their efforts to find the missing woman.
He said: “You can imagine the apparatus that is involved when someone disappears. It’s not only local and state authorities. We also have search and rescue involved with some of these volunteer organizations.
She has never been seen since (Missoula County Sheriff’s Office)
“We have federal authorities involved. It’s hundreds and thousands of dollars, just in hours that are put into it, that we’re paying people who are actually investigating the cases. Is it worth it? Of course.
“Do we track the money that is spent and say, ‘Okay, we’ve reached this point and we’re not going to investigate anymore.’ No. Our job is to actually get to the truth, and to hold people accountable for any crime, but particularly when there’s a missing person.”
Some conspiracists believe that Bolick faked her death, and ran away to start a new life, but Laslovich shared that trying to build a life after disappearing would be a wasted effort.
He said: “It’d be highly unlikely if someone were still alive, still able to function, especially when we have really extensive means at the federal level, especially if someone leaves the country, they’re still going to need some kind of identification.”
He added: “So it just would be really difficult for someone to just disappear; to start a new life with nothing.”
Just two weeks of searching and investigation, Ravalli County Sheriff Chris Hoffman said that Bolick’s disappearance was ‘a mystery.’
“We are perplexed,” Hoffman told the Bitterroot Star.
“We have combed the area in the vicinity of the disappearance very well. No trace at all has been found.
“We would like to verify, if we can, that Bolick was even on the mountain that day.”

A Google Street View image could provide a huge clue in a missing persons case.
Arelie Garcia, 25, from California, went missing on September 22, 2022. She stopped answering text messages from her family and never showed up to her job at a local car dealership.

After alerting the authorities, Arelie was found to have left her home at 6.30am – but she wasn’t wearing her usual workwear.
She was due to be in work at 7.30am, and had text her sister Veronica to say ‘good morning’.
Referring to Veronica’s son, Davian (who is Arelie’s godson) she wrote: “Good morning. I miss you and my baby. Love you!”
When she never showed up to work, the team reached out to Eli Mendoza – Arelie’s other sister – to say they were worried.
The sisters tried to message and call Arelie, but realised their texts were not being delivered.
Incredibly, a Google Street View image has now provided police with clues over what could have happened that morning.
The satellite system actually took a photo on the day that Arelie went missing, which shows her bright red Honda abandoned on the coast.
Police believe the image was taken around three hours after the vehicle was left.
It was discovered by Veronica, who used the Find My Phone app to locate Arelie’s device.
The car was found locked, but Arelie’s phone, keys and wallet were inside.
She was nowhere to be seen
Following the discovery, police spent days scouring the area for clues, but have not been able to find anything of significance.
“It’s been like a scary movie since the day it happened. Like, it’s just been a nightmare,” Veronica told Dateline.
Meanwhile, detective Arras Wilson added: “We essentially searched four miles north of where her car was found and four miles south of where her car was found. So every cove, um, every beach, every trail, every turnoff, everything was searched — and there was no indication of Arelie.”
After analysing the vehicle, police did confirm that the driver’s seat was pushed back further than Arelie would have usually had it.
The family have said that if she had been on the way to work, she shouldn’t have been in the area the car was found.
The car is spotted on Street View (Google Street View)
Despite Arelie being due in work, a second video shows the car passing a general store at around 7.30am, which is around 20 minutes from the coastline where the Honda was discovered.
Despite the footage and images, the windows of the car were too tinted to see who was inside, or if Arelie was alone.
While the search continues, Arelie’s family believe she is still out there, somewhere.
“We believe it in our hearts that she’s still out there somewhere, for sure,” said Veronica.

A New Zealand woman has caused a stir online after admitting her sister is in a relationship with her ex-husband.
According to Stats NZ, there were 7.6 divorces for every 1,000 estimated existing marriages and civil unions, down from 9.3 in 2013.
And while it’s still too early for 2024’s stats to be rolled out, one couple who reportedly signed off their split this year was mom-of-two Timara, 37, and her unnamed former husband.
According to The Daily Mail, the social media star was married to her ex for a decade, but separated from him after their first year together.

The pair finally got divorced earlier this year and Timara has since revealed that her former flame is now in a romantic relationship with her sister.
The mother made the announcement in a viral Instagram video which was posted to the platform earlier this week.
In the quick clip, the pair can be seen standing side-by-side as overlay text reads: “Wait, is your sister with your ex husband/baby daddy??”
The text is then replaced with the word ‘yup’ before the siblings begin dancing. In the clip’s caption, Timara wrote: “It’s keeping it in the family. Yup it’s weird but I choose not to be bothered by it.”
Hundreds of social media users have rushed the the video to have their say, with one commenting: “We listen and we don’t judge.”
A second typed: “Naah I can mature bout some things I mean my cousin did that to me and my kids but MY SISTER?! Yeah nah that dont fly. Good for yous though I guess sis.”
“That’s my family for yall, we keep it in the family,” remarked someone else.

“What does he look like please, we look and we don’t judge,” penned a fellow user.
After posting the video, which now has over 386,000 views, Timara spoke to the Daily Mail about how she discovered the controversial relationship her sister was having with her ex.
“There wasn’t really a conversation, I just noticed they were together and that was that,” she explained to the publication.
And despite it being a situation most would disapprove of, Timara has claimed she is ‘okay’ with her sister dating her baby daddy.
“I’m okay with it because everybody deserves love and happiness. My focus is on my own life, my little family and making sure I’m there for my daughter mentally and emotionally because she’s the only one that matters in the situation.”
