Amy Schumer shares honest health update following Ozempic use that left her ‘bedridden’

The update comes after Schumer previously revealed trying weight-loss drugs had left her struggling with severe nausea

Amy Schumer another candid health update with fans, after previously revealing her Ozempic horror story.

The actor and comedian has been candid about her health over the past couple of months, even revealing on an episode of The Howard Stern Show that she’d dabbled with the diabetes drug, which has recently become popular amongst celebrities seeking to lose weight, only to end up completely ‘bedridden’.

“I tried Ozempic almost three years ago and I was like, bedridden,” she explained.

“I was like, vomiting — and then you have no energy. But other people take it and they’re all good.”

Despite her nauseating first experience with the weight-loss drug, Schumer wasn’t deterred and revealed in a recent Instagram post that she was having a better experience with similar drug Mounjaro.

“Three years ago, I tried Wegovy,” Schumer said in a social media video. “I was puking, I couldn’t handle it. I don’t know if they’ve changed the formula, whatever.”

She went on to explain that she’d had an online health referral via online midlife health clinic Midi Health.

Going on to reveal that was feeling the benefits of being prescribed estrogen and progesterone for perimenopause symptoms, she continued: “So that’s been great and Mounjaro’s been great.”

Ozempic and similar appetite suppressant drugs such as Wegovy and Mounjaro were primarily created for treatment of Type 2 Diabetes through the use of either semaglutide (Ozempic and Wegovy) or tirzepatide (Mounjaro).

The availability of the drugs for weight loss on the NHS is currently changing, with both Wegovy currently available through limited specialist services.

Mounjaro was also approved for usage by NICE in December 2024 and is expected to be rolled out in a similar manner.

Schumer – who lives in the US – then went on to clarify that she was aware that the drug wasn’t fully available where she lives, adding: “It’s not covered by insurance unless you have diabetes or severe obesity, which most of the internet thinks I have, but I’m having a really good experience with it.

“I wanted to keep it real with you about that.”

Schumer has also been candid about the impact of trolling on her appearance, even revealing that a barrage of cruel comments meant that she was able to receive a Cushing’s Syndrome diagnosis.

“I wouldn’t have known [about Cushing’s Syndrome] if the internet hadn’t come for me so hard,” she joked during an interview on Call Her Daddy.

“Doctors were chiming in in the comments and they were, like, ‘No, no, something’s really up. Your face looks so crazy’.”

Novo Nordisk declined to comment on Schumer’s claims when previously approached by LADbible Group.
