The ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ singer was meant to perform in Lima, Peru on February 16

Shakira was hospitalized ahead of her concert in Peru and has updated fans on when she may be able to perform.

On Saturday (February 15), Shakira arrived in Lima, the capital of Peru, to perform in the country for the first time in around a decade at Estadio Nacional the following night.

Unfortunately, on February 16, the 48-year-old ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ singer was forced to cancel her concert, taking to her social media to reveal she had been hospitalized.

Shakira took to her Instagram story yesterday to share a statement.

It reads: “I am sorry to inform you all that last night I had to go to the emergency room for an abdominal issue and am currently hospitalized. The doctors whose care I am currently under have communicated that I am not in good enough condition to perform this evening.

“I am very sad that I will not be able to take the stage today. I’ve been looking forward to reuniting with my incredible fans here in Peru.

“I hope to be released and well tomorrow so I’m able to perform. My team and promoters are already working on a new date to communicate to you. Thank you all for your understanding. Shak.”

And it’s not taken long for fans to flock online to offer their well wishes and support

One Instagram user said: [Translation] “Shakira bella, the news says you’re in the clinic, may God take care of you and heal you of any illness so you’re always fine, don’t get sick, I’ll be praying for you.”

“Shakira recover soon, take care of yourself my friend, we understand the cancellation of your conversion. The most important thing is your health. To pray for you. Hug,” another added.

A third commented: “They have to reschedule yes or yes! They can’t cancel us dates in Lima.”

In a follow-up story, Shakira added: “Thank you all for your loving messages. You give me so much strength! I love you with all my heart.”

Shakira is currently set to perform again in Lima tonight (February 17), however, it will depend on whether or not she’s deemed fit to by a doctor.

Her tour first kicked off in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil on February 11.

The day after the the performance, the singer took to her Instagram to share images alongside writing: “Rio! I couldn’t have asked for a better crowd to kick off the tour! Thank you for all your love, warmth, and energy on an unforgettable night! São Paulo, are you ready?”
