Nothing kills the mood on a romantic weekend more than the thought of infidelity; however, the unthinkable is very much an unfortunate possibility for some couples up and down the country.

So if you felt like something was just off with your Valentine’s Day celebrations, then here are three signs to be aware of courtesy of Aussie PI Cassie Crofts, aka the woman who alerted us to the possibility of a partner cheating via the Notes app of all places.

They’re busy before Valentine’s Day

Naturally, you’d expect your significant other to have a clear diary on 14 February, which means even the most skilled cheater would stay clear of organising an illicit rendezvous on this day.

So instead take note of your partner’s behaviour around Valentine’s, are they suddenly shifty about their plans in the days leading up to or following?

Well, it could be a sign of infidelity.

“Most cheaters are smart enough to know if they’re unavailable at any point on actual Valentine’s Day, you’ll get suspicious,” Crofts explained.

“Whereas the day before, not so much.”

However, your partner going AWOL on February 13 doesn’t always mean something fishy is going on, they may have just left gift shopping until the very last minute.

They suddenly stop posting you on social media

The second red flag for Crofts involves social media usage on the big day. Were you scrolling through loved-up posts on Instagram and noticed your sweetheart hadn’t declared their feelings for you publicly? According to the Aussie PI, this is something else to be wary of.

Now we’re not saying the lack of acknowledgement on social media instantly means cheating, as there’s dozens of happy couples who exist without declaring their feelings online. However, Crofts is talking about the people who are usually openly affectionate on their socials going silent.

“Obviously if you’re not the kind of couple that post about each other all lovey dovey, and never have before, that’s fine,” she explained.

“I’m talking about the people who have posted about you every year. This year there’s a reason they can’t and they might also persuade you from posting about them.”

Their bank statements don’t match up to your gifts

Crofts’ final point involved your partner’s spending habits in the run-up to the big day.

Were you expecting to receive a lavish gift after taking a peek at your partner’s bank statements, only to be surprised by the bare minimum? Well, that could be a sign of infidelity in Crofts’ view. “Their bank statements don’t match your gift – e.g. you got jewellery and flowers but there’s a charge for a lingerie store,” she added in the video’s caption.
