The family of Britons Craig and Lindsay Foreman, who have been detained in Iran, said the situation was causing “significant concern”.
They were reportedly detained in January but Iran’s state-run media revealed this week they had been accused of security-related offences.
The couple were reportedly traveling around the world on motorbikes when they were held.
A statement from the family said: “We would like to take this opportunity to address the distressing situation concerning Craig and Lindsay Foreman who are currently being detained in Kerman, Iran.
“This unexpected turn of events has caused significant concern for our entire family, and we are deeply focused on ensuring their safety and well-being during this trying time.
“We are actively engaging with the British government and relevant authorities, working diligently to navigate the complexities of this matter.
“The family are united in our determination to secure their safe return.”

A British man has been reported missing in Tenerife, with his friends and family not hearing from him since 7 February.
34-year-old tourist Liam Hannigan had been visiting the Spanish island but his last contact was four days ago.
The Manchester Evening News reports that Liam had first flown out to Tenerife on 29 December with his partner, and was now staying with friends he met on that trip.
His sister Ellie said that Liam, from Clifton, had last spoken to her on Friday but the last message she sent to him didn’t deliver.
Speaking to the MEN, she said: “Normally if he wasn’t speaking to me, he’d speak to another of his sisters or our mum.
“Over the weekend we realised he hadn’t contacted any of us, and his friends said they hadn’t seen him since Friday morning.”

An appeal has been posted onto the Missing Persons Tenerife group, which describes him as ‘around 6ft 1, slim, with tanned skin and has a tattoo on his chest saying ‘Family First’ and a small ‘A’ on his wrist’.
“He has a full beard. He is likely to be wearing a black shiny ‘Moncler’ body warmer with a hood and green Croc shoes,” the appeal told people who would need to be on the lookout for Liam.
According to the appeal, the 34-year-old’s phone has been switched off and he is not in possession of either his passport or his bank card as they have been ‘left for safekeeping with a family friend in Los Cristianos’.
Spends had been made on his bank card in the Los Cristianos area.
Hannigan’s family have said the situation is ‘very unusual’ and that he ‘would never ever stress us out like this’, with Ellie adding that her mother and stepdad would be flying out to Tenerife to look for Liam.
“Even just a sighting or someone who assumes they’ve seen him could help. We just want him home,” she said in a plea to anyone who might have information that could help her family find Liam.
The Foreign Office confirmed it was ‘supporting the family of a British man in Tenerife’.
Anyone with information is being urged to contact police in Tenerife by making a report in English by phoning the National Police helpline on 902 102 112. An app called ‘Alert Cops’ can also be used to make reports in English.
