After seeing a video of the Vances standing next to President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump during their first dance to The Battle Hymn of the Republic, social media users couldn’t help but admire Usha’s floor-length dress. One person gushed, “She looks like a princess.” Another commented, “Usha’s dress is phenomenal.”

The praise continued, with one netizen commenting, “Usha Vance looked so lovely. Her dress, as [sic] her outfit from earlier at the #Inauguration2025, was just perfection. #SecondLady #Usha.” Another person remarked, “This is a real example of class and elegance.”

Using two pictures—one of Usha walking and smiling, and another of her beaming as her husband was inaugurated as Vice President—Oscar de la Renta took credit for designing the second lady’s inauguration look.

Many of those people are now among his best friends. The vice president’s wife also noted that J.D.’s views on family were shaped by his upbringing. She explained that his perspective comes from the realization that he wouldn’t be where he is today without his family members looking out for him.

The second lady emphasized that her husband thrives on having a strong family support system. Knowing that he has people who love and care about him when he gets home, and understanding himself, are crucial to his well-being.

The couple has since welcomed three children: Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel. The trio attended their parents’ inauguration, sparking reactions from netizens. One user wrote, “Beautiful family. Kiddos are too cute for words!”

At one point, the mother of three worked as an associate at Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP from 2015 to 2017, before serving as a law clerk at the U.S. Supreme Court for a year. Before becoming the second lady, Usha Vance returned to Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP, and worked as an associate once again.
