Apparently you’ll want to avoid this one if you ‘wish to be happy at Christmas’

After a morning spent opening presents, a lunch time absolutely scranning as many pigs in blankets as possible and maybe a ‘big walk’ comes the time of slumping in front of the telly

Christmas Day just doesn’t quite feel the same without everyone gathering around the TV and some years it’s often tricky to settle on something to watch.

Perhaps you can’t think of anything other than the Gavin and Stacey finale or the special Outnumbered episode. Or maybe you like to pop on a festive film to end up falling asleep in front of. But there’s one movie that viewers warn against putting on as it could ‘ruin’ Christmas day.

Released back in 2021, Silent Night is available to rent on the likes of Apple TV+ and Prime Video for people looking for something a little darker at this time of year.

Starring Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Lily-Rose Depp, Lucy Punch and Sope Dirisu, it’s directed by Camille Griffin.

The synopsis reads: “Nell, Simon, and their boy Art are ready to welcome friends and family for what promises to be a perfect Christmas gathering.

“Perfect except for one thing: everyone is going to die.”

Yeah, like I said, it’s dark alright.

So basically, it becomes clear during their lovely little Christmassy night that it’s going to be their last.

Britain is set to be engulfed in a poisonous green mist after much of the world has already been wiped out.

And the government has came up with a way to help – by providing an exit pill. So, they all prepare to take it at midnight, after one last Christmas night.

Twitter users quickly made the realisation it wasn’t a particularly light film as they wrote: “WHY AM I WATCHING THIS I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE A FUN MURDER MYSTERY OH GOD IT’S NOT.”

Another echoed: “Put Silent Night (2021) on thinking this will be a nice Christmas film for tonight. That’ll teach me to read the synopsis.”

And this led to the warning: “Don’t watch on Christmas day as it may upset you.”

Some say they were a ‘wreck after watching’ as another urged: “If you wish to be happy this Christmas DON’T WATCH SILENT NIGHT.”

However, there are viewers who call it a a ‘pleasant yet bleak surprise’ and wrote: “It’s not your typical Christmas flick but rather a very, very dark comedy with many truly dramatic aspects.”

One joked it’s ‘Love and Death Actually’ while another who ‘hates’ Christmas films said ‘this one is a doozie’.
