Choi Wheesung tragically found dead in his home
Emergency responders discovered him in cardiac arrest after his mother reported concerns when he missed a scheduled meeting with his manager, The Sun reported.

Wheesung began his music career in 1999 with the boy band A4 but left after their first album due to creative differences. He launched his solo career in 2002 with the album Like a Movie, which gained acclaim from notable artists like Seo Tai-ji and Shin Seung-hun. His subsequent albums, including It’s Real and For the Moment, solidified his status in South Korea’s R&B scene.
His soulful vocals played a significant role in popularizing R&B in South Korea. Beyond his singing career, Wheesung mentored aspiring K-pop artists, sharing his expertise and passion for music. He was scheduled to perform with ballad singer KCM in Daegu this weekend.

Authorities have found no signs of foul play and are investigating the cause of death.
Fellow artists have expressed their condolences. Yoon Min-soo wrote, “Wheesung, let’s sing and make music freely in that place. I won’t forget your pure and clear heart. Let’s meet again someday and sing together.” Rapper Verbal Jint shared, “Every moment we shared was an honour, and I’m grateful. You’ve worked so hard, rest in peace, Wheesung.”
Fans have also shared their devastation online, with one sharing this tribute on X: “Choi Wheesung, the legend himself accompanied me during my adolescence and into adulthood until present. He impacted Korean music immensely and created tidal waves!!
“He was Jonghyun’s and Ailee’s respected Sunbae! Two other artists I adore(d)! As well as countless others! The night sky is illuminated with a blinding gleam with the ascension of another massive star!
“Thank you for gracing us with your brilliance throughout the 20+years as your fan! I will miss your dazzling smile, your presence, your talent! Wheesung also impacted my childhood, created unforgettable memories that are embedded in my mind, heart, and soul forever.”
In recent years, Wheesung faced legal issues, including a suspended sentence in 2021 for abusing the anesthetic propofol. He was also found unconscious on two occasions in 2020 due to similar substances.
Wheesung’s death follows the recent passing of actress Kim Sae-ron, who was found dead at her home aged 24.
Wheesung’s contributions to South Korea’s music industry have left a lasting impact. His legacy continues to inspire artists and fans alike.
